Position: Purchasing Manager – Manufacturing Experience Required!

We are looking to hire a Purchasing Manager for a great manufacturing client located in Mississauga. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Purchasing Manager is responsible for the development and delivery of all strategic sourcing plans. High-level responsibilities include leading sourcing assessments, supplier development and delivery; and implementation and life-cycle management of all key supplier-partner agreements. This role supports the company’s manufacturing strategies and quality.
Responsibilities:
– Spearhead supplier agreements and negotiations.
– Plan and execute procurement initiatives to meet and surpass company goals.
– Continually evolve strategic sourcing best practices, policies, and procedures within the Procurement team and provide subject matter expertise.
– Maintain in-depth and current product knowledge.
– Supply chain representation and responsibility within group projects, with internal teams.
– Oversee supply chain management, driving continuous improvement and risk mitigation.
– Establish and track departmental KPIs and scorecards to assist in the evaluation of Purchasing team members and vendor performances.
– Lead quarterly business reviews with strategic vendors.
– Evaluate and optimize the existing supplier base, and ensure it is aligned with established sourcing strategies, including supplier consolidation, alternative supplier identification, and migration.
– Be accountable for all employee-oriented activities including engagement, development, performance management, hiring, retention and compensation, within the Purchasing Team.
– Provide employee satisfaction scores and employee recognition.
– Provide day-to-day oversight of the purchasing team.
Professional Knowledge & Skills:
– Post secondary education in business or supply chain management.
– At least 7 years of relevant experience in a management role in areas of purchasing, procurement, strategic sourcing, and/or supply chain management within a manufacturing environment.
– Professional designation or certification (SCMP, CPIM, CSCP, CPM) preferred.
– In-depth understanding and exposure to volume purchasing/procurement of steel, plastic, packaging, and other raw materials and goods and services.
– Experienced with contract negotiations and implementing cost saving initiatives.
– Exposure to vendor/supplier relationship management and scorecard/KPIs implementation.
– Tenacity to overcome challenges to deliver on commitments.
– Exceptional communication skills.
– Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
– Strong proficiency in MS Excel and ERP systems (JDE or similar).
– Professional, creative-thinking team player with the ability to handle multiple demands with the use of effective multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
– Demonstrated experience in leading teams and projects, must be visionary and have the ability to understand the company’s needs at a high level.
