About ByteDance Networking
The ByteDance Networking team pioneers cutting-edge solutions in network architecture, virtualization, and high-speed networking, powering some of the world’s most popular apps. Our hyperscale data center networks support hundreds of millions of users worldwide, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance.
By joining this team, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience in large-scale data center networking, working with some of the industry’s most advanced technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, operate, and optimize ByteDance’s global Edge and backbone networks.
- Collaborate across teams, including computing, storage, databases, and recommendation systems, to drive network innovation.
- Work with external vendors and ISPs, handling device selection, carrier testing, and verification.
- Travel may be required (15%–30%) to support global operations.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP, BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, MPLS).
- Knowledge of network monitoring tools and protocols (SNMP, sFlow/netFlow, Telemetry).
- Familiarity with data center network architectures, such as CLOS.
- Hands-on experience with major networking devices (Cisco, Arista, Juniper, H3C, Huawei, etc.).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a global on-call rotation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields (or equivalent experience).
- In-depth knowledge of hyper-scale data center networks and MPLS traffic engineering (e.g., Segment Routing, RSVP, LDP).
- Experience with network chipsets (Broadcom, Barefoot, etc.).
- Strong understanding of IPv6 and IPv4-IPv6 co-existence strategies.
- Programming/scripting proficiency (Python or other languages).
