Payroll & Benefits Specialist

About the Role

DLA Piper is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our Sheffield office on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate, efficient, and timely processing of payrolls, supporting the Payroll & Benefits Team, and providing coverage for the Payroll & Benefits Manager during a period of change as we implement new systems, processes, and procedures.

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will also oversee payroll accuracy, handle statutory reporting for PAYE, and support the Senior Payroll & Benefits Advisor in reviewing employee records, salary calculations, and deductions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise payroll operations in coordination with the Payroll & Benefits Manager
  • Provide support during transitions, ensuring smooth implementation of new systems and processes
  • Act as a liaison between HR Business Partners, HR Benefits Team, and key stakeholders
  • Assist in reconciling month-end accounts and recharges
  • Collaborate on annual salary and bonus reviews, including reconciliation of salary adjustments
  • Process manual calculations for enhanced maternity, parental, and shared leave
  • Oversee payroll-related benefits administration, including system updates and monthly reporting
  • Manage P11D processing, year-end filing, and statutory returns
  • Assist with pension enrolment, reconciliation, and regulatory reporting
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and payroll legislation
  • Provide customer-focused support, addressing employee payroll queries with professionalism
  • Support audit processes and data retrieval as needed
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and system efficiencies

About You

  • Strong payroll expertise, with a keen interest in developing within the field
  • Experience in payroll team management and ability to oversee operations
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Ability to embrace change and drive continuous improvement
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in financial reconciliation
  • Working knowledge of SuccessFactors, SAP, and ResourceLink Payroll (preferred)
  • Experience with pension enrolment, statutory leave calculations, and payroll legislation
