What You’ll Do
- Develop, implement, and test algorithms for guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) systems in alignment with project requirements.
- Design, integrate, and evaluate GNC architectures, considering all system components, including spacecraft, sensors, actuators, and algorithms.
- Build and refine Multi-Disciplinary Analysis and Optimization (MDAO) models, tools, and workflows to support design exploration across various flight systems.
- Apply MDAO techniques to optimize GNC systems, balancing performance, cost, and risk factors.
- Contribute to all stages of system development, from concept and design to prototyping, testing, and operational deployment.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, flight software engineers, and test engineers, to ensure seamless system integration and performance.
- Participate in design reviews, safety assessments, and system documentation efforts.
- Use simulation and analysis tools to validate GNC models and assess system performance under diverse operational conditions.
- Provide systems engineering expertise to ensure an integrated and effective approach to GNC system design and implementation.
- Identify and resolve GNC-related challenges during design, testing, and operational phases.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends in GNC engineering and system architecture.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with a focus on dynamics and control.
- 7+ years of experience working on complex air vehicles.
- Strong foundation in classical and modern control theory, estimation, and filtering techniques.
- Proven experience developing GNC solutions for flight systems.
- Proficiency in GNC simulation tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and related toolboxes.
- Familiarity with 6-DOF (six degrees of freedom) simulations.
- Ability to travel up to 25%.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of astrodynamics, flight mechanics, orbital mechanics, and related physics.
- Hands-on experience developing GNC designs for flight systems.
- Expertise in GNC system architecture development and testing, particularly in aerospace applications.
- Experience generating C or C++ code from Simulink models.
- Knowledge of MDAO methods and tools in complex system design.
- Familiarity with MDAO frameworks such as OpenMDAO, ModelCenter, or modeFRONTIER.
- Proficiency in programming languages for trajectory optimization, such as MATLAB, Python, Julia, or C++, with experience in optimization libraries (e.g., GPOPS-ii, DIDO, Dymos, CasADi, or IPOPT).
- Experience coding in C/C++ or Rust.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Familiarity with agile and Lean development methodologies, including Scrum.
- Experience using Jira, Git, GitHub, or GitLab.
- Understanding of and adherence to industry, safety, and quality standards.
- Passion for national defense and supporting U.S. and allied forces.
- Active U.S. Top Secret clearance (preferred).
