What It Takes to Succeed as a Forklift Operator at XPO
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Basic math skills, with or without a calculator
- Availability to work various shifts (days, evenings, nights, and weekends) based on freight volumes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a dock or warehouse environment within the transportation industry
- Previous forklift experience in a freight or less-than-truckload (LTL) setting
- Familiarity with loading and unloading trailers
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to success
About the Forklift Operator Role
Pay, Benefits & Schedule:
- Starting Pay: $20.92 per hour
- Shift: 6:00 AM – 11:00 AM
- Benefits: Competitive and comprehensive options for employees working 30+ hours per week
- Position Status: Motor Carrier Act Exempt
Responsibilities:
- Efficiently sort, handle, load, and unload both palletized and non-palletized freight
- Operate motorized and manual equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks
- Properly secure freight inside trailers using necessary tools and supplies
- Follow all safety protocols and work efficiently to maintain a secure environment
- Use mobile handheld devices to scan and track shipments
- Work extended periods on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled
Physical Requirements:
- Lift various freight items, frequently up to 50 lbs. and occasionally exceeding 70 lbs.
- Walk and stand for long periods in non-climate-controlled environments, which may include slippery surfaces
- Perform reaching, bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, squatting, and kneeling as needed
