Position Summary

The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting materials to and from designated storage areas using a small industrial vehicle.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participate in pre-shift meetings, including group stretching exercises.

  • Operate a forklift safely and productively.

  • Perform daily forklift inspections and remove equipment from service if any defects are found.

  • Ensure damage-free and accurate shipping/receiving by conducting Quality Reassurance Checks.

  • Monitor the workspace for safety concerns and take appropriate action when necessary.

  • Complete all documentation and paperwork with accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Process customer orders correctly, following any special instructions provided.

  • Collaborate closely with office staff to address and resolve any discrepancies or issues.

  • Maintain a clean, organized warehouse, ensuring damaged items are addressed and pallets are properly stored.

  • Foster teamwork and positive communication within and across teams.

  • Follow safe work practices, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and sanitation standards to maintain product quality and safety.

  • Report any conditions or practices that could impact food safety, food quality, or employee well-being.

  • Take responsibility for ensuring food safety and quality in Michael Foods products.

  • Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience (Required):

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Successful completion of a Powered Industrial Truck training program and forklift certification.

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.

  • Strong math and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to assess situations and make sound decisions that prioritize both company interests and employee safety.

Preferred Education, Experience & Skills:

  • At least six months of experience in a palletized warehouse environment is preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Forklift certification is preferred but not required at the time of hire—all distribution operators will receive MFI-approved Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) training and certification upon starting employment.
