Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the healthcare team at the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD). The ideal candidate will be currently licensed in the state of Tennessee or hold a multistate privilege to practice under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). This role is vital in providing compassionate, hands-on care and supporting medical protocols in a state-operated healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform Basic Life Support (BLS), CPR, and emergency response procedures.

Monitor and record vital signs; identify allergies and assess general health status.

Administer medications and monitor for side effects and effectiveness.

Assist with personal care, including feeding and bathing patients.

Prepare and collect specimens for lab tests and facilitate transport as needed.

Educate patients and caregivers on maintaining optimal health and self-care practices.

Document patient care, medications, interventions, and assessments in the medical record.

Maintain and secure healthcare supplies and report any inventory discrepancies.

Ensure cleanliness and functionality of medical equipment and work areas.

Foster collaborative relationships with staff, patients, families, and external providers.

Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and external partners to support patient care plans.
Requirements:

Valid LPN license in the state of Tennessee or a multi-state compact license.

Ability to work a rotating schedule including every other weekend.

Experience in documenting medical procedures, medication administration, and patient education.

Skilled in basic nursing functions including vital signs, specimen collection, medication administration, and emergency care.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.
-
CPR/BLS certification required.
