We’re hiring a Finance and Administration Officer to support the Comparative Biology Centre (CBC) at Newcastle University. As a Finance and Administration Officer, you’ll manage essential finance and admin processes that support strategic goals within a world-class research environment. This role offers a competitive salary of £26,942–£27,644 per annum, along with exceptional university benefits such as generous holidays, a strong pension scheme, and health and wellbeing initiatives. Key Responsibilities of the Finance and Administration Officer

 Core Duties of the Finance and Administration Officer Role

  • Support CBC senior leadership with daily financial and administrative operations

  • Maintain databases and records with accuracy and data integrity

  • Act as expert buyer for procurement processes; resolve queries and provide training

  • Process internal billing, cost recovery, and staff absences

  • Assist with invoice coding, sales, expenses, and overtime management

  • Coordinate internal/external events, meetings, and committees

  • Ensure compliance with visitor and security policies

  • Play an active role in CBC health and safety, including roles like DSE assessor or Fire Warden

  • Manage confidential information in line with GDPR

  • Support the Animal Welfare and Ethical Review Body administration

  • Continuously contribute to CBC’s sustainability initiatives

What We Look For in a Finance and Administration Officer

 Required Skills & Attributes for a Successful Finance and Administration Officer

  • Proven experience with finance systems, procurement, VAT, and administrative processes

  • High-level IT skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); SAP knowledge is a plus

  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to resolve issues independently and manage multiple priorities

  • Experience working with senior managers and diverse teams

  • Strong judgment when handling confidential or sensitive information

  • Confident minute-taker, able to coordinate agendas and follow up on actions

 Qualifications and Additional Requirements

  • GCSEs in English and Maths (Grades A–C) or equivalent

  • Professional experience or qualifications in a finance-related discipline

  • Willingness to undergo a satisfactory medical and security clearance process
