Job Overview:
The Physician Coding Education Specialist is responsible for conducting internal audits, analyzing coding accuracy, and providing educational support to ensure compliance with coding guidelines. Key duties include reviewing medical records for accurate code assignment, performing audits, solving complex coding issues, and collaborating with the Central Business Office. The role also involves presenting educational programs and maintaining a 90% coding accuracy rate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct internal audits and analyze coding for inaccuracies

  • Communicate with providers to ensure proper coding and compliance

  • Develop and present educational programs for physicians and staff

  • Review medical records for compliance with coding and payer guidelines

  • Resolve complex coding issues and collaborate with the business office

  • Maintain a 90% coding accuracy rate and adhere to ethical standards

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree

  • 5+ years of professional coding experience (multiple specialties preferred)

  • Extensive auditing experience with the ability to communicate findings and provide education

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel

  • One of the following certifications: CPC, CCS, CCS-P, CMC, CPMA, CEMA

  • Expertise in coding principles (CPT-4, ICD-10-CM/PCS, HCPCS), regulations, and payer requirements

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and EMR systems

  • 90% proficiency in coding skills assessment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Level 1 Trauma Hospital experience

  • EPIC EMR experience

  • Experience with large, multi-location, multi-specialty organizations
