Position Summary

Trinity Health is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Intern to join our team. This is a great opportunity for individuals currently enrolled in pharmacy school or planning to begin their program soon. This role supports pharmacy operations by assisting in the preparation and delivery of medications, maintaining inventory, and ensuring patient safety through accurate documentation and support functions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Current enrollment in a pharmacy school/program or verbal commitment to begin one.

  • Must be registered as a Pharmacy Intern with the State of Iowa at time of hire, OR

    • Registered as a Technician in Training (up to 12 months) until eligible for Intern status upon pharmacy school enrollment.

    • May also be registered as a Certified Pharmacy Technician until Intern status is granted.

  • Completion of Mandatory Reporter Abuse Training (child and dependent adult) within three (3) months of hire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms and ancillary care areas.

  • Review MARs (Medication Administration Records) and care plans to determine returned medications for credit.

  • Pick up and distribute medication orders from nursing stations.

  • Process patient admissions, discharges, and transfers with proper medication handling.

  • Assist pharmacists with audits and complete unit inspections as assigned.

  • Restock automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis, AcuDose) and crash cart kits.

  • File medication orders, fill unit-dose exchange envelopes, and manage medication returns.

  • Support inventory by entering stock requisitions and restocking supplies as needed.
