Summary: Reporting to senior leadership, you’ll oversee a portion of the Crowley Marine Personnel Department, ensuring timely and qualified crewing of managed, operated, and owned vessels, primarily focusing on union crewing.

General Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of professional and administrative staff responsible for the reliable dispatch of mariners.
  • Oversee full performance management, goal setting, and supervision of your crewing team.
  • Manage intake requests and dispatch coordination with clients.
  • Be accountable to multiple business unit operational teams or external clients for crewing needs, efficient dispatch processes, mariner travel, promotion, recruiting, and overall crew support.
  • Support the performance management process for mariners in assigned fleets.
  • Understand union contracts and regulations to guide your team and internal customers, and assist with crew discipline and grievances.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and data entry by your team and the accuracy of eligibility reports for crewing decisions.
  • Provide initial guidance to marine operations and labor relations on crew discipline, complaints, and grievances.
  • Manage your team’s performance for internal and external audits of crewing procedures.
  • Interpret and apply collective bargaining or employment agreements and job assignments appropriately.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute strategies for effective marine personnel management.
  • Support the labor relations team as needed, including participating in union negotiations, grievance or safety meetings, and issuing progressive discipline.
  • Be process-oriented and system-driven.

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent work experience.

Experience: 3-4 years in marine transportation or equivalent experience with exposure to blue-collar unionized workforces, OR 1-2 years in marine crewing/personnel management. Supervisory experience strongly preferred.

Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and ability to work with Nautical Systems, Oracle, Smartsheets, and PowerBI.

Competencies: Excellent verbal and written communication, strong interpersonal skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, ability to mentor and supervise employees, and sound decision-making within corporate guidelines.

Other: General knowledge of maritime licensing and qualification procedures. Ability to read and interpret regulations and union contracts. Preferred ability to collect data and produce reports.

Job Scope: Position impacts multiple business units/segments.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment with occasional extended computer use.
