YMCA Derbyshire is seeking a Practical Work Skills Tutor to join our passionate team. If you have a desire to help young people who have faced barriers to education and empower them with practical skills, this is an exciting opportunity to make a difference. As a Practical Work Skills Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting students to develop essential work skills in construction, horticulture, IT, and digital literacy, as well as maths and English. This part-time role offers you the chance to inspire and guide young people, helping them achieve their full potential and prepare for future careers.
Key Responsibilities of a Practical Work Skills Tutor:

Deliver practical and theoretical sessions in a range of work skills areas, including construction, horticulture, and digital skills

Provide training in functional maths and English up to Level 2

Support young people in overcoming barriers to learning and education

Track learner progress and provide feedback to ensure skill development

Engage students through interactive and engaging teaching methods

Offer support in a safe, nurturing environment where young people can flourish
Who We’re Looking For:
To excel as a Practical Work Skills Tutor, we’re looking for candidates who are:

Passionate about supporting young people and fostering their development

Patient, motivated, and eager to make a positive impact on learners’ lives

Experienced in teaching or working with young people, preferably in vocational or educational settings

Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Willing to complete relevant training and professional development

A holder of GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent)

A driving license and access to a vehicle
