The Role You’ll Play
As a CDL A Driver at International Paper, you will be responsible for safely operating company vehicles along assigned routes to collect recyclable materials from commercial clients. In this role, you’ll uphold the highest safety standards while delivering exceptional service, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting operational excellence across every mile.


Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a commercial vehicle in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company safety policies.

  • Collect recyclable materials from commercial customers along a designated route.

  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and promptly report any issues.

  • Participate in daily safety toolbox meetings to reinforce safe work practices.

  • Review daily work schedules and Bills of Lading (BOLs) to ensure accurate route planning.

  • Maintain courteous and professional communication with dispatch and customers throughout the day.

  • Adjust to route changes or customer requests as communicated by dispatch.

  • Complete all delivery, pickup, and vehicle condition reports with accuracy and timeliness.

  • Support a clean and safe work environment by maintaining the cleanliness of the truck cab and following plant housekeeping standards.

  • Step in to cover routes during vacations or unexpected absences.

  • Assist in the training of new drivers.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.


Qualifications and Experience You Bring

  • Valid Class A CDL (Required)

  • At least 2 years of verifiable Class A commercial driving experience

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Ability to operate a manual transmission

  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)

  • Current DOT Medical Card and Air Brakes Endorsement

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Proficiency in reading, speaking, and writing English to interact with the public and complete regulatory documentation

  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening, background check, and random drug/alcohol testing

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Reliable, punctual, and adaptable to changing work conditions

  • Comfortable driving in diverse weather and traffic conditions

  • Familiarity with proper cargo loading for safety and balance

  • Skilled in operating various equipment including:

    • 48 ft. and 53 ft. semi-tractors and bobtail trailers

    • Bale route tractors and trailer units

    • Truck trailer forklift units (TTFU)
