Exciting Opportunity for a Consultant in Infection – Join a Leading NHS Trust
We are excited to announce a new opportunity for a Consultant in Infection (microbiology or microbiology and infectious diseases) developed in collaboration with North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). This role provides specialist infection services across Bristol for NBT and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW). As a Consultant in Infection, you’ll work primarily at NBT within Severn Infection Sciences (SIS), supporting services at Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital. Applicants must hold full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register or within six months of CCT at interview.
Consultant in Infection Role – Key Responsibilities
The Consultant in Infection will split clinical activities between NBT (55%) and UKHSA (45%), offering vital infection services across multiple sites.
Consultant in Infection – Main Duties Include:

Deliver analytical microbiology, clinical consultations, and infection control services

Serve as a site-specific Infection Prevention and Control Doctor

Share clinical infection service responsibilities and patient care with consultant colleagues

Lead junior medical staff and provide prospective cover for colleagues’ leave

Contribute to policy development and infection prevention initiatives within the trust

Participate in an out-of-hours 1:8 on-call service covering NBT and WGH

Additional Duties and Development Opportunities for a Consultant in Infection
