About the Job

Haystack Oncology is expanding its laboratory informatics team as we introduce innovative NGS-based diagnostic technologies. We’re looking for a Bioinformatics Engineer – LIMS to help advance our assay portfolio by developing and maintaining our cloud-based Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

In this role, you will build and optimize both front- and back-end functionalities of our StarLIMS platform, supporting automation of clinical data management workflows. You’ll collaborate across teams to translate lab and regulatory requirements into scalable, compliant technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and enhance LIMS functionality in StarLIMS using scripting languages (HTML5, JavaScript, Python, .NET).

  • Generate scientific and compliance-ready reports with SQL, Crystal Reports, and QBE.

  • Translate user and business needs into functional specifications.

  • Work in Jira to manage development tasks and communicate project status.

  • Troubleshoot, debug, and test system functionalities.

  • Document technical configurations and changes for traceability and compliance.

  • Support end-users with LIMS training and provide ongoing maintenance.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with stakeholders across departments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a STEM-related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 3+ years of experience coding in SQL, Python, JavaScript.

  • Experience with relational databases, Crystal Reports, and REST APIs.

  • Strong knowledge of software design controls, SDLC, and compliance standards.

  • Proven ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

  • Hands-on experience customizing enterprise LIMS systems (StarLIMS highly preferred).

  • Familiarity with laboratory workflows and instrumentation.

  • Certifications in IT or software development.

Other Details:

  • Remote role with potential travel (up to 10%).

  • Must be available during business hours in Eastern/Central time zones.

  • Some weekend work may be required.
