About the Job
Haystack Oncology, a part of Quest Diagnostics, is expanding its laboratory informatics team to support the introduction of cutting-edge diagnostic technologies and the growth of our assay portfolio.
We are seeking a Bioinformatics Engineer – LIMS to develop, configure, maintain, and optimize functionality within our cloud-based enterprise Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), which manages the generation, analysis, quality control, and interpretation of clinical NGS assay data.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on development experience with LIMS platforms, a comprehensive understanding of clinical laboratory workflows and FDA regulations, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a collaborative, continuous-improvement mindset.
This salaried role offers 100% remote work flexibility, with up to 10% travel as needed. Candidates must be located within the U.S. and be available during Eastern and Central time zone business hours to support our laboratory sites. Some weekend work may occasionally be required to meet project deadlines or provide end-user support.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop and configure both frontend and backend solutions within the StarLIMS platform to automate laboratory and scientific processes.

Write and modify code using StarLIMS scripting languages, HTML5, Jscript, .NET libraries, and Python.

Generate scientific reports utilizing SQL, Crystal Reports, and StarLIMS Query by Example (QBE).

Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

Manage project tasks using Jira and provide timely status updates.

Document system configurations, procedures, and changes for compliance purposes.

Troubleshoot, debug, and test software solutions independently and as part of a team.

Provide training and ongoing support to laboratory staff and stakeholders on LIMS best practices.

Communicate effectively and professionally in English, both written and verbal.

Perform other duties as needed to contribute to the success of the team and company.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related STEM field.

At least 3 years of experience developing custom code in SQL, Python, and JavaScript.

At least 3 years of experience working with relational databases and reporting tools like Crystal Reports.

Familiarity with system integration methods, including REST APIs and web services.

Professional experience using a bug/issue tracking system (e.g., Jira).

Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and software design controls.

Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision in a multidisciplinary environment.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience configuring and customizing enterprise LIMS platforms, especially StarLIMS.

Deep understanding of laboratory workflows, data management, and regulatory compliance standards.

Experience working with laboratory testing and scientific equipment.

IT-related certifications are a plus.
