NHS Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit is currently hiring for the role of RMC Administrator at our Leyland House site in Leyland. As an RMC Administrator, you’ll be part of a dedicated team helping patients through the referral and appointment booking process. This vital role involves communicating with patients, clinical staff, and GP practices to ensure smooth referral management and high-quality service delivery. The ideal candidate will be organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced call centre environment. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential.
Join Our Team as an RMC Administrator
As an RMC Administrator, you will provide critical administrative support to the Referral Management Centre (RMC), which serves as the first contact point for patients and general practitioners throughout the NHS referral process. You will play a key role in managing patient appointments, transport bookings, and liaising with healthcare providers across primary, community, and secondary care.
You’ll work across multiple systems, including the Integrated Referral Gateway, e-Referral, RIO, and web-based transport scheduling platforms. The role requires precision, professionalism, and the ability to support patients in an empathetic and responsive manner.
Main Duties of an RMC Administrator

Deliver accurate and timely processing of all patient referrals received via email, post, and online systems

Allocate referrals to the appropriate clinical triage pathways

Assist GP practices with the referral process and post-referral patient management

Provide clear, empathetic guidance to patients about available hospital and service options

Handle patient interactions, including emotional or distressed individuals, with tact and understanding

Use multiple IT platforms to schedule appointments and book non-emergency transport

Ensure adherence to national/local waiting list and transport protocols

Manage patient data input accurately and securely in line with confidentiality policies

Respond efficiently to patient and stakeholder queries over phone, email, and written communication

Contribute to the development of IT systems and participate in policy updates and meetings

Produce complex statistical and operational reports as required
What You’ll Need – RMC Administrator Role

Customer care experience in a high-volume or service-focused environment

Strong verbal and written communication skills across various stakeholders

Basic education including GCSE-level Maths and English or equivalent

Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Understanding of confidentiality and data protection in a healthcare setting

The ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and remain organized
