Pharmacist

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Process prescription orders in the IHS Electronic Health Record (EHR), ensuring they are complete, appropriate, and checked for dosing accuracy and allergies.

• Monitor for drug-drug and food interactions, contraindications, warnings, and assess renal function as necessary.

• Provide counseling to patients on the proper and safe use of medications.

• Review patient profiles, oversee medication therapy, identify medication-related problems, and offer solutions.

• Verify the accuracy of pharmaceutical products prepared by technical staff.

• Share medication-related information and offer training to clinical staff.

• Assist with inventory management, particularly for scheduled pharmaceuticals.

• Ensure the security and proper documentation of controlled substances, report adverse drug reactions (ADR), medication interactions, and medication errors.

• Collaborate with specialty practitioners to optimize patient care and engage in quality improvement activities.

Skills and Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical services and medication management.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Flexibility to adjust to changes in patient needs and procedures.

• Proficient in maintaining accurate and detailed records.

• Current, valid, unrestricted pharmacy license in any U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy.

• Familiarity with pharmacy computer systems (IHS EHR, RPMS, ScriptPro, Omnicell).

• Proficient in general computer applications (Microsoft Office, email, internet).

• Knowledge of medical privacy and confidentiality standards (HIPAA).

• Proven experience in:

  • Processing and dispensing medications.

  • Counseling patients on medication use.

  • Managing medication inventory and security.

  • Providing clinical direction to pharmacy staff.

  • Conducting quality improvement and medication use evaluations.
