Looking to launch a rewarding career in rail engineering? Join Amey as a Rail Apprentice in our Level 3 Signalling Technician Construction Apprenticeship. This is a structured 39-month programme designed for aspiring engineers ready to make a real-world impact. As a Rail Apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience alongside expert mentors while contributing to critical infrastructure projects. With locations available in Bedford or York based on your preference, this full-time role is your gateway to a lasting, meaningful career.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm
Starting Salary: £22,764 (subject to 2025 review)
Duration: 39 months
What You’ll Learn as a Rail Apprentice
This Rail Apprentice programme is led by experienced professionals from Amey’s Rail, Signalling and Systems Group. You’ll receive structured training in:

Rail Apprentice Key Responsibilities
Your Role in the Field

Support Installation Team Leaders and Testing Engineers

Learn about signalling systems and safety protocols

Participate in monthly safety meetings

Maintain accurate site records

Wear required PPE and follow all safety procedures

Report all incidents and support investigations

Contribute to essential safety-of-the-line activities
What Makes a Great Rail Apprentice?
Skills, Qualities & Requirements

3 A-Levels (A*-C) including Maths and Physical Science, or Level 2 Engineering Apprenticeship

Enthusiasm for team collaboration and personal development

Comfortable working at heights (e.g. from a MEWP)

Valid UK driving licence
-
Passion for learning and taking on new challenges
