Job Description

Hertfordshire Constabulary is seeking a skilled Database Administrator – Herts to join the BCH ICT Database Team. This full-time, permanent role is based primarily in Huntingdon, with flexible work options in Bedford or Welwyn Garden City. The Database Administrator – Herts will be responsible for managing SQL Server production databases that support critical policing systems. This hybrid role currently recommends two days a week in-office, with more on-site presence during the initial weeks. Ideal candidates will have strong SQL Server experience, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain high service availability and performance in a secure environment. A full UK driving license is required for out-of-hours on-call support.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

As a Database Administrator – Herts, your primary focus will be to ensure the stability, security, and high availability of the database infrastructure supporting essential police applications and intelligence systems. You will:

  • Monitor and manage production SQL Server databases

  • Maintain data integrity and security across platforms

  • Resolve incidents through the ICT Service Desk

  • Offer technical guidance across the department

  • Keep documentation for all corrective actions and procedures up to date

While the role is SQL-focused, knowledge of Oracle and cloud platforms is beneficial.

  • Salary: £38,754 + £5,037.36 Market Rate Supplement
