Seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join Velocity Rail Solutions, a growing railroad services provider recently acquired by private equity. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, you will manage essential accounting functions including month-end close, reconciliations, fixed assets, leases, and GL maintenance. Ideal candidates possess strong technical accounting skills, analytical abilities, advanced Excel proficiency, attention to detail, effective communication, and a proactive mindset. Join the growing team at Velocity Rail Solutions, a private equity-backed railroad services company, as a Senior Accountant. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, you will play a key role in the accounting department, leading the month-end close process and managing essential functions including general ledger activities (journal entries, reconciliations, analysis), cash management support, fixed asset system maintenance, and ensuring proper lease accounting under ASC 842. You will also oversee accounts payable, assist with financial reporting and audits, and contribute to process improvements and internal control initiatives.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in transportation, distribution, or railroad industries.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, particularly lease accounting (ASC 842) and fixed assets.
  • Proven experience with month-end close processes and cash management.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software (ERP systems like NetSuite/MS Dynamics preferred).
  • Robust analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, proactive, and able to manage priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred: CPA designation (or progress towards it); MBA or Master’s degree.
