Position: Staff Accountant

Employment Type: Part-Time | Contract (W-2 or 1099, depending on qualifications and agreement)
Compensation: $30.00 – $50.00 per hour
Work Arrangement: Remote


Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of TNL and its subsidiaries through a variety of critical accounting tasks, including:

  • Entering, processing, and reconciling vendor invoices and payments, while maintaining proper check register documentation and verifying signature authority.

  • Importing approved budgets into the accounting system.

  • Monitoring daily cash balances, credit card transactions, and bulk fuel credit accounts.

  • Generating customer invoices for services such as bus transportation and land use.

  • Processing bi-weekly or monthly payroll, including calculations for taxes, deductions, and timely payroll tax submissions.

  • Managing both accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.

  • Maintaining accurate general ledger and financial records.

  • Assisting with the preparation of internal and external financial reports.

  • Performing regular bank reconciliations in coordination with the Controller.

  • Supporting policy compliance and contributing to the development of accounting procedures.

  • Preparing audit documentation and performing account reconciliations.

  • Posting journal entries and ensuring financial accuracy on a continuous basis.


Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred (or equivalent relevant experience).

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional accounting experience preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; proficiency in Word and PowerPoint is a plus.

  • Experience with QuickBooks and/or Deltek Costpoint is preferred.

  • Strong grasp of GAAP and double-entry accounting; familiarity with DCAA standards is a plus.

Preferred Attributes:

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with Alaska Native Corporations, government contracting, or fuel/gas operations is highly desirable.

  • Self-motivated, well-organized, and able to work both independently and within a team.


Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.

  • Must clear a background check with no finance or business-related offenses.
