Department Overview:

The Center for Translational Neuromedicine is a research-intensive department with more than $13 million in annual sponsored research expenditures. This role involves providing both quantitative and qualitative analysis of business operations, financial performance, and compliance with financial policies at the University of Rochester (UR). The Sr. Accountant will collaborate closely with Center leadership and other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain compliance with financial regulations, and support the Center’s operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use the URGEMS encumbrance accounting system and UR Financials to reconcile and analyze monthly ledgers and expenses.

  • Resolve discrepancies related to unknown expenses and prepare month-end financial reports.

  • Act as the liaison with the Office of Research Accounting and Costing Standards (ORACS) for grant-related activities and ensure compliance with policies.

  • Prepare journal entries and manage financial reporting systems.

  • Design and interpret financial reports for University management and develop reports for grant applications and progress reports.

  • Liaise with funding sponsors and central offices (e.g., ORPA, ORACS) for grant-related requirements and updates.

  • Monitor funds and create controls to ensure financial integrity, including managing animal costs for projects.

  • Oversee payroll forms and employee reimbursements, and consult with auditors on accounting issues in research programs.

  • Advise faculty members on grant applications, sponsored project reports, and develop financial reports and e-submissions.

  • Lead the preparation of financial reports for regulatory agencies regarding sponsored projects.

  • Supervise and guide other staff in accounting-related tasks, offering advice and resolving complex problems.
