Position Summary
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for delivering routine daily care and services to assigned residents in alignment with each individual’s care plan and under the direction of supervising nurses. This role ensures residents receive care in a safe, comfortable, and respectful environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Identify residents properly before administering care or serving meals using photo ID or wristbands.

  • Document care using only facility-approved abbreviations and formats.

  • Promptly report changes in resident condition, accidents, and incidents to the Charge Nurse or Nurse Supervisor.

  • Maintain accurate, descriptive records and charts.

  • Safeguard resident privacy and confidential health information, reporting any suspected breaches.

  • Perform only those procedures for which you are trained and authorized.

  • Prepare rooms for new admissions and assist with resident orientation and comfort.

  • Inventory and label resident belongings and assist with transfers, discharges, or room changes.

  • Support residents in activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, eating, grooming, and toileting.

  • Frequently check on residents, especially those unable to call for assistance, and respond to call lights promptly.

  • Assist with ambulation, transferring, positioning, and use of mobility aids and lifts.

  • Observe for and report signs of skin breakdown or other health concerns.

  • Monitor and record vital signs, food and fluid intake, and communicate any concerns to nursing staff.

  • Maintain clean water pitchers and ensure access to fresh water.

  • Provide post-meal care and assist with preparing residents for medical tests or therapy sessions.

  • Participate in nursing shift reports and collaborate with team members to improve care delivery.

  • Follow infection control and safety procedures, including proper reporting of occupational exposures.

  • Report and respect resident decisions regarding treatment, and notify supervisors accordingly.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to document clearly and interact effectively with residents, families, and staff.

  • Ability to interpret and apply written instructions, charts, and care protocols.

  • Capable of handling mathematical tasks related to daily care (e.g., calculating fluid intake/output).

  • Physical capability to lift or move up to 25 pounds, and engage in prolonged periods of standing, walking, and computer use.

  • Able to operate common office and care-related equipment.

  • Must remain calm and responsive in emergency situations, including potential evacuations.

  • Work environment noise level is generally low to moderate.


Education & Certifications

  • Minimum education: Completion of the 10th grade.

  • Current CNA certification valid in the state of Tennessee.

  • CPR certification preferred.
