Position Overview:
Clean Harbors in Caseyville, IL is seeking an Environmental Field Chemist CDL Driver (CleanPack Chemist) responsible for handling, segregating, packing, and inspecting chemical waste following Federal, State, and Local regulations, as well as company policies. This role involves working both indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, and customer locations, assisting with lab packs, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, and lab relocations.
As a customer-facing role, this position requires daily interaction at customer sites.
Clean Harbors will cover the cost for obtaining your CDL. Candidates must have the ability to obtain a Class B CDL with hazmat endorsement. Note, this role does not involve laboratory-based chemistry. Candidates must be clean-shaven to wear a full-face respirator when needed.

Key Responsibilities:
-
Prioritize health and safety by adhering to all safety policies and procedures
-
Prepare computer-generated packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications
-
Inspect staging, accumulation, and storage areas for housekeeping and regulatory compliance
-
Check storage drums for leaks, spills, and proper labeling
-
Collect, segregate, and package chemical waste efficiently and safely
-
Perform job duties at customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies
-
Finalize project preparation and approvals in compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies
-
Follow site-specific regulations and safety plans for all projects
-
Understand customer-specific disposal restrictions and special packaging needs

Sample and profile waste streams requiring analytical testing

Verify drum counts and ensure shipment readiness per company standards

Comply with all local, state/provincial, and federal regulations

Safely operate vehicles according to U.S. DOT and other regulatory requirements

Follow all corporate environmental health and safety guidelines

Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:

Valid driver’s license

Strong customer service skills
-
Ability to obtain Class B CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsements within six months

Physical ability to perform job requirements

Successful completion of background check, drug test, and physical exam

Must meet OSHA facial hair standards for respirator use
Preferred:

College degree in Chemistry or Natural Sciences

Previous experience in environmental services such as remediation, abatement, or emergency spill response
