Role Summary
The Assistant Nurse Manager plays a pivotal leadership role by supporting the Nurse Manager in the daily operations of the unit. This includes coordinating clinical care, managing staff performance, overseeing resources, and ensuring a high standard of patient care delivery. The role combines clinical responsibilities with administrative functions and provides a growth pathway for nurses pursuing leadership opportunities.
Key Responsibilities

Provide clinical oversight and administrative support in collaboration with the Nurse Manager to ensure high-quality care and efficient unit operations.

Supervise, train, and evaluate nursing staff, including performance reviews, coaching, and professional development planning.

Participate in staffing decisions, including assignments, scheduling, and determining overtime needs.

Monitor unit productivity and ensure departmental goals are met in alignment with operational objectives.

Support the implementation and documentation of patient care plans that are individualized and developmentally appropriate.

Review and reconcile timecards, bonuses, and payroll updates; lead huddles and coordinate staff communication and meetings.

Contribute to budget planning and adherence by responding to changes in patient volumes and resource needs.

Participate in the hiring process, conduct interviews, and assist in disciplinary actions or corrective coaching as needed.

Ensure continuous alertness and compliance with all safety-sensitive policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Missouri

Experience: 2–5 years of relevant clinical experience

Supervisor Experience: Not required
Preferred Qualifications

5–10 years of clinical nursing experience, ideally in neurology or medical-surgical settings

Prior leadership or supervisory experience is highly desirable
