Role Summary

The Assistant Nurse Manager plays a pivotal leadership role by supporting the Nurse Manager in the daily operations of the unit. This includes coordinating clinical care, managing staff performance, overseeing resources, and ensuring a high standard of patient care delivery. The role combines clinical responsibilities with administrative functions and provides a growth pathway for nurses pursuing leadership opportunities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical oversight and administrative support in collaboration with the Nurse Manager to ensure high-quality care and efficient unit operations.

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate nursing staff, including performance reviews, coaching, and professional development planning.

  • Participate in staffing decisions, including assignments, scheduling, and determining overtime needs.

  • Monitor unit productivity and ensure departmental goals are met in alignment with operational objectives.

  • Support the implementation and documentation of patient care plans that are individualized and developmentally appropriate.

  • Review and reconcile timecards, bonuses, and payroll updates; lead huddles and coordinate staff communication and meetings.

  • Contribute to budget planning and adherence by responding to changes in patient volumes and resource needs.

  • Participate in the hiring process, conduct interviews, and assist in disciplinary actions or corrective coaching as needed.

  • Ensure continuous alertness and compliance with all safety-sensitive policies and procedures.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

  • Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Missouri

  • Experience: 2–5 years of relevant clinical experience

  • Supervisor Experience: Not required


Preferred Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of clinical nursing experience, ideally in neurology or medical-surgical settings

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience is highly desirable
