Job Description
Ferguson Marine is looking for a skilled and experienced Electrical Subcontract Manager to join our shipbuilding operations in Port Glasgow. In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll be responsible for managing all aspects of electrical subcontractor performance—ensuring compliance, quality, and timely delivery on key marine construction projects.
Reporting to senior project management, you will act as the primary liaison between electrical subcontractors and the internal shipyard team, overseeing day-to-day operations across installation, commissioning, and testing.
Key Responsibilities
Subcontractor Oversight

Coordinate and supervise electrical subcontractor activities across all project phases

Evaluate subcontractor capabilities and manage resource allocation

Ensure compliance with contracts, safety standards, and deadlines

Resolve technical and operational issues in a proactive manner
Project Coordination

Collaborate with internal teams to plan and schedule electrical works

Organise regular progress meetings with subcontractors and internal stakeholders

Ensure subcontractors are aligned with the latest project specifications and drawings
Quality Assurance & Compliance

Enforce adherence to all relevant standards (IEC, NEC, Lloyds, MCA, etc.)

Conduct inspections to ensure installation quality and compliance

Manage documentation and resolution of non-conformities and punch lists
Health & Safety Management

Implement and monitor site safety policies and procedures

Lead toolbox talks and ensure correct PPE use

Investigate incidents and implement preventative actions
Cost & Progress Control

Monitor subcontractor costs, labour, and materials

Review and approve invoices and progress claims

Produce regular progress and financial reports for the project team
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential
-
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering

Black CSCS Card
-
SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)

IOSH Managing Safely
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical subcontractor management (marine/shipbuilding preferred)

Strong knowledge of electrical systems in a shipbuilding context

Excellent communication, leadership, and reporting skills

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
Desirable

Prior experience in a fast-paced, multi-trade shipbuilding or marine environment

Familiarity with project management tools and documentation software
