Retail Sales Representative

Are you a highly motivated self-starter with a passion for sales and a knack for building relationships? General Mills is looking for a Retail Sales Representative (RSR) to be a key driver of our success in the Spokane area. In this role, you’ll be on the front lines, maximizing sales and profitability by ensuring our products shine in stores across your territory.


What You’ll Do:

Drive Sales & Build Relationships (70% of time)

  • Maximize Sales: Identify and seize opportunities to boost incremental sales and displays based on what you see in stores and by selling directly to key decision-makers.
  • Deliver Results: Consistently achieve sales goals through your superior sales and negotiation skills.
  • Forge Partnerships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers within your territory to overcome challenges and maximize sales outcomes.

Analyze & Problem-Solve (10% of time)

  • Develop Expertise: Grow your selling skills and product knowledge through hands-on field experiences.
  • Use Data to Win: Leverage analytical data to drive sales directly at the store level.
  • Prepare to Impress: Gather relevant store, product, and market data to craft compelling selling presentations for key decision-makers before your calls.

Execute with Excellence (20% of time)

  • Own Your Results: Take personal accountability for your outcomes and deeply understand what our customers need.
  • Be a Product Expert: Understand General Mills’ products, categories, and brand priorities, and how to link them to opportunities in each store.
  • Share Insights: Communicate valuable market insights from the store level back to management.
  • Amplify Displays: Use point-of-sale materials effectively to create impactful incremental displays.
  • Achieve Goals: Successfully execute all retail priorities to deliver strong results.

What You’ll Need:

  • Location: You must live on the West side of Spokane or central to Spokane, ideally near zip codes 99224 or 99205, or be willing to relocate within 30 days of your start date.
  • Travel: Expect 2-4 overnights per month with regular travel to Wenatchee, Ephrata, Othello, Moses Lake, and Omak. There will also be a minimum of two travel meetings per fiscal year.
  • Passion: A genuine enthusiasm for selling and representing General Mills and our iconic food brands.
  • Driving: A valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Experience: Relevant work experience with a High School Diploma/equivalent.
  • Tech Savvy: Proficient with tablets (like an iPad) and Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills for both internal and external partners.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, influencing, and negotiation skills.
  • Independence: The ability to work effectively with a high degree of independence.
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States; General Mills will not sponsor work visas for this position.

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of your time will be spent in customer stores.
  • You must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 20 pounds using proper techniques.
  • Expect prolonged walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and some ladder climbing in stores.

  • Industry experience in sales, customer-facing sales, or other relevant fields.
  • The ability to build relationships with key decision-makers across an organization.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree.
