Payroll Specialist – Bergen County, NJ
We are currently partnering with the Payroll Manager of a well-established, owner-operated group of restaurants and food service companies based in Bergen County, New Jersey, in search of a motivated and experienced Payroll Specialist to join their growing team. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and detail-oriented professional with experience in multi-state payroll processing and the ability to contribute to leadership and project functions within the payroll department.
Key Responsibilities:

Serve as a lead resource and mentor to Payroll Coordinators, providing training and guidance to support their professional development and ensure accuracy in payroll operations.

Act as the Payroll Lead, assuming supervisory duties and overseeing day-to-day operations in the absence of the Payroll Manager.

Assist in the management and execution of payroll-related projects, including data analysis, process improvements, and system testing to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Review and oversee the monthly reconciliation reports submitted by restaurant managers, ensuring all payroll data aligns with financial records and organizational policies.

Manage the submission of payroll for multiple business entities, ensuring compliance with company standards and legal requirements.

Accurately process weekly and biweekly payroll cycles, maintaining strict adherence to deadlines and regulatory guidelines.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Minimum of 2 years of hands-on payroll experience, preferably in a multi-entity or hospitality/restaurant environment.

Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll tax laws, reporting requirements, and compliance regulations.

Experience processing payroll across multiple states, including New Jersey (NJ), New York (NY), Connecticut (CT), and Pennsylvania (PA).

Ability to manage responsibilities in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with a strong commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.

Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with a collaborative and solutions-driven mindset.
