About the Role
We are seeking a Genetic Counsellor to join our integrated community health services team, working with pregnant women, families, and individuals affected by or at risk of sickle cell and thalassaemia. Based across Lambeth, Southwark, and Lewisham, you will support antenatal, neonatal, and opportunistic screening programmes, combining clinical practice with health promotion, teaching, training, and research.
You will deliver nurse-led genetic counselling clinics across local health centres and GP practices and provide personalised health advice, supporting people to make informed decisions about haemoglobinopathy screening and diagnosis.
Key Responsibilities

Provide expert genetic counselling to pregnant women, couples, and individuals affected by or at risk of sickle cell and thalassaemia

Receive and manage referrals from GPs, labs, health visitors, and other clinical professionals

Deliver counselling services via nurse-led clinics at community centres and GP surgeries

Contribute to antenatal and neonatal screening programmes in line with NHS protocols

Support opportunistic screening and integrated care pathways

Promote health equity and empower service users through health education

Contribute to service audits, evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives

Participate in training and teaching of students and other professionals

Provide input into service planning and development, with an emphasis on cost-effective practice
About You
Registered health professional with genetic counselling experience (or relevant training)
Experience in haemoglobinopathies (sickle cell/thalassaemia preferred)
Skilled in delivering sensitive information in a culturally competent manner
Able to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
Strong communication, organisational and IT skills
Committed to reducing health inequalities and delivering high-quality community care
