Are you a strategic, data-savvy social media expert with a passion for journalism? The Telegraph Media Group is seeking a seasoned Social Media Lead to drive innovation, engagement, and growth across our social platforms. You’ll lead a talented team of social editors and help shape how millions interact with our award-winning journalism daily.

This is a pivotal leadership role focused on growing subscriptions, expanding audience reach, and elevating digital storytelling across platforms including Meta, X, TikTok, Reddit, and LinkedIn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Innovation:
    Develop and lead The Telegraph’s social media strategy with a clear focus on audience growth, engagement, and subscriptions.

  • Editorial Alignment:
    Work closely with desks across News, Video, Audio, and Features to align storytelling with social-first strategies.

  • Content Oversight:
    Ensure all posts are on-brand, optimised for platforms, and contribute to long-term brand value and community development.

  • Analytics-Driven:
    Use performance data and social listening tools to guide content decisions and react quickly to emerging trends and news moments.

  • Team Leadership:
    Manage, mentor, and grow a team of social editors; establish workflows that support newsroom agility and cross-desk collaboration.

  • Cross-Platform Collaboration:
    Maintain strong relationships with third-party platforms (Meta, X, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.) and stay ahead of platform innovations.

  • Campaign Development:
    Lead bespoke strategies for editorial launches, campaigns, product innovations, and market expansion.

  • Staff Support & Training:
    Help journalists and editors build their personal social media profiles in alignment with The Telegraph’s editorial voice and mission.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Extensive leadership experience in social media at a quality digital news publisher, preferably with a subscription-based model

  • Deep knowledge of audience development, digital storytelling, and engagement tactics across major platforms

  • Strong experience in managing and mentoring teams in high-performing editorial environments

  • Expertise in social analytics tools, content planning, and performance reporting

  • Ability to influence and collaborate across large, complex newsrooms

  • A strong instinct for news, trends, and audience behavior

  • Committed to pushing innovation and staying ahead of digital media evolution
