About the Organization
Metra is a large and complex public transportation agency with more than 3,400 employees—approximately 2,600 of whom are covered under 18 collective bargaining agreements across 14 unions. The organization embraces a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across all levels. Like many transportation agencies, Metra is also preparing for a significant shift in workforce demographics, with 21% of employees eligible to retire by 2025.
Position Overview
The CHRO will lead and manage a department of 54 HR professionals with an annual operating budget of $8.4 million. The position reports to the Deputy Executive Director of Administration and has several direct reports, including:

As a senior leader, the CHRO is expected to uphold and model the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct, in full compliance with Metra’s Code of Ethics, relevant federal and state laws, and all internal policies related to conflicts of interest, confidentiality, and fair practices. The CHRO will be responsible for cultivating a culture of transparency, accountability, and professionalism throughout the organization.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required (or equivalent experience totaling four years in HR-related roles may substitute for a degree)

Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in human resources management

At least 7 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity

A master’s degree and/or certification such as SPHR or SHRM-SCP is strongly preferred
Compensation and Benefits

Starting Salary Range: $202,741 – $225,268

Anticipated Starting Salary: $219,774 (based on qualifications and experience)
