We are looking for a Mental Health Nurse to join our team.
The Mental Health Nurse will:
- Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to provide and coordinate services such as nursing assessments, plans of care, medication administration, teaching, telephone follow-up and health promotion.
- Complete appropriate nursing assessments (physical and psychosocial) to identify mental health concerns and current risks. This includes:
- Incorporating objective findings such as laboratory results, diagnostic findings, specialist reports and past history.
- Integrating assessment and other data to establish appropriate long and short-term goals, and providing nursing interventions to promote, maintain and restore health.
- Monitor, evaluate and modify nursing care plans based on effectiveness of interventions and/or changes in condition or environment, in collaboration with the patient and care team.
- Provide information and instructions to assist others in understanding the clinical condition, ongoing care and management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- A minimum of three to five years of recent pediatric experience in an ambulatory care setting which has included the care and management of children with mental health problems.
- Acute care experience in children’s mental health would be an asset.
- Must be a member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta.
- Knowledge of the Health Information and Protection of Privacy Information Acts in addition to professional organization’s ethics and standards of practice.
- Ability to apply theoretical knowledge in a clinical setting, utilize relevant research findings in daily nursing practice.
- Identify barriers and facilitate solution development, and to work independently and within a team to prioritize work activities.
- Knowledge of family therapy and group therapy is an asset.
