The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ) serves as the central hub for over 550 synagogues and 150 youth groups across North America, supporting programs like YALA and ExploringJudaism.org that engage tens of thousands monthly. Position Summary
The Finance Department manages USCJ’s financial health, overseeing budgeting, record accuracy, compliance, financial analysis, and strategic planning. The Accountant role is split evenly between Accounts Payable and general accounting, managing vendor payments, reconciliations, and transaction records while ensuring compliance and strong vendor relationships.
Key Responsibilities

Verify and process invoices, vendor payments, and check runs twice weekly

Maintain and update vendor records, including banking and tax information

Prepare ACH files, journal entries, AP aging reports, bank reconciliations, and monthly expense allocations

Handle program revenue recording and credit card statement reconciliations

Manage year-end 1099 and 1096 processing and other financial schedules

Collaborate closely with internal teams and vendors to resolve discrepancies
Qualifications

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred

2+ years accounting experience, ideally in nonprofit

Proficient with accounting software (BlackBaud Financial Edge/NXT preferred) and MS Excel

Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills

Ability to multitask, work independently and as part of a team
