About the Job

The Office of the Delaware State Auditor is hiring an Administrative Auditor to strengthen oversight of taxpayer dollars and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. As an Administrative Auditor, you will help detect fraud, waste, and abuse while improving efficiency and accountability in government programs. Key Responsibilities of an Administrative Auditor

As an Administrative Auditor, you will:

  • Review and evaluate internal controls, operating procedures, and management practices.

  • Conduct compliance audits, economy and efficiency reviews, and investigative audits.

  • Identify risks of fraud, waste, or abuse, and recommend improvements.

  • Analyze financial and contractual records to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.

  • Prepare detailed reports, work papers, and recommendations based on audit findings.

  • Conduct entrance and exit interviews to communicate findings and resolve issues.

  • Develop audit scopes, plans, and programs.

  • Evaluate external audit work from CPAs, contractors, or internal teams.

  • Use data analysis software for complex financial reviews.


Qualifications for an Administrative Auditor

To qualify for the Administrative Auditor role, candidates must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business, Technology, or related fields.

  • At least 3 years of experience planning and managing multiple audits under professional standards.

  • 3 years of experience in policy development and setting organizational goals.

  • Supervisory experience in planning, assigning, and evaluating staff work.

  • A current professional certification such as CPA, CIA, CISA, or CFE—or willingness to obtain within 12 months.
