About the Role
Ascension Technologies is seeking a skilled GCP Database Administrator to join our Data Delivery Governance team. As a GCP Database Administrator, you will manage, maintain, and optimize cloud database environments, ensuring secure, high-performance, and resilient systems. You’ll collaborate with infrastructure teams to troubleshoot issues, implement best practices, and explore emerging technologies. This role is fully remote, offering flexibility while contributing to a mission-driven organization that impacts communities nationwide.

Key Responsibilities for GCP Database Administrator

• Manage installation, configuration, and maintenance of GCP database technologies.

• Develop and enforce processes for database optimization, security, backup/recovery, and performance monitoring.

• Oversee database access governance and maintain patching/upgrade cycles.

• Diagnose and troubleshoot database issues collaboratively with infrastructure and IT teams.

• Recommend and implement emerging database technologies to enhance platform performance.

• Develop reports, dashboards, and visualizations for database platforms.

• Ensure data resilience and provide on-call support as needed.

Required Skills

• Strong expertise in database management tools across MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar.

• Knowledge of database security, backup/recovery, and performance best practices.

• Extensive experience with cloud technologies, including Google BigQuery, CloudSQL, Cloud Functions, and GCVE.

• Understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling.

• Proficiency in PowerShell and Unix shell scripting.

• Working knowledge of networking concepts: TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and segmentation.

• Strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with keen attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

• 5–10 years of enterprise-level GCP administration or data engineering experience.

• Administrative experience across multiple database disciplines.

• Exposure to other cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure.
