Position Overview

This role delivers comprehensive pharmaceutical care by providing patient-centered clinical services, medication information, education, preparation, and distribution, ensuring safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapy. The pharmacist exercises sound judgment and applies advanced clinical skills to contribute to and implement individualized patient care plans based on diagnosis in a timely manner. Building trust and collaboration with patients, their families/support systems, and healthcare teams is achieved through thorough patient assessments, vigilant monitoring, and clear communication. The role strictly adheres to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures to maintain patient privacy and safety while delivering optimal care.

This position requires flexibility to work across provider clinics and specialty pharmacies. Expertise in clinical knowledge and therapy management for chronic inflammatory diseases, HIV, and oncology is essential. Candidates must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and follow up effectively. The role demands adaptability to fast-changing and sometimes ambiguous environments, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple competing clinical and operational priorities. The pharmacist will also oversee and coordinate the work of others to meet deadlines efficiently. Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Word and Excel and accuracy in data entry are required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a specialty pharmacist within a hospital setting

  • Board certifications such as BCACP, BCPS, BCOP, or CSP

  • Experience with EPIC and Beacon systems

  • Completion of ASHP-accredited Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) General Pharmacy Residency


Job Description

Pharmacy Services:

  • Prepare medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders and identifying therapeutic incompatibilities

  • Dispense medications through compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals

  • Monitor drug therapies and recommend interventions to ensure optimal patient outcomes

  • Ensure timely completion of routine and priority pharmacy tasks

  • Mentor and support students, interns, and pharmacy technicians to build their skills and confidence

  • Manage pharmacy operations by organizing technician workflows and verifying preparation, labeling, order entries, charges, and inspections

  • Provide pharmacological information to healthcare professionals and counsel patients regarding their medications

Clerical Duties:

  • Perform general administrative tasks such as answering phones, updating patient records, and managing electronic health records (EHR)

  • Accurately document patient care information in medical and departmental records as required

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including updating safety procedures and contributing to interdisciplinary projects

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment compliant with policies and regulations

  • Adhere strictly to infection control protocols to protect patients and staff

Compliance:

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient protected health information (PHI) and prevent unauthorized disclosures

  • Prepare, administer, and document medications and treatments in compliance with applicable state and federal laws

  • Comply with drug regulations enforced by the state board of pharmacy, DEA, FDA, and other agencies, including managing controlled substance inventories, removing expired or damaged drugs, and keeping registrations current

  • Stay informed about existing and new legislation, advising management on necessary actions to ensure compliance


Education

  • Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited school of pharmacy


Certification & Licensure

  • Licensed Pharmacist (PharmD) in good standing


Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, generic and brand drug names, pharmaceutical calculations, and legal regulations

  • Familiarity with various pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic handling procedures

  • Ability to accurately interpret and utilize pharmaceutical and medical terminology, abbreviations, and symbols common in prescribing, dispensing, and record keeping

  • Working knowledge of relevant legal and accreditation standards, including The Joint Commission, Title XXII, DHS, DEA, FDA, and USP
