About the Role
Leeds City Council is recruiting Apprentice Motor Vehicle Technicians to join our Fleet Services team. This apprenticeship offers hands-on experience working with a diverse fleet—from small cars to heavy goods vehicles—while completing a Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service Maintenance qualification at Castleford College.
You’ll learn how to inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair vehicles under expert supervision, developing skills to become a fully qualified vehicle technician over a 3½-year program.
Key Responsibilities

Learn to inspect, service, repair, and maintain a mixed fleet of light commercial, heavy goods, and municipal vehicles

Diagnose vehicle faults accurately and support routine maintenance tasks

Develop practical skills including welding, manufacturing, and diagnostics through service-led training

Complete all required paperwork and maintain accurate records

Work safely in compliance with all health and safety regulations and Operator Licence requirements

Collaborate with your team and participate in continuous professional development
About You

Commitment to working 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday), including college attendance as required

Willingness to undertake and pass Maths and English tests as part of your apprenticeship

Some understanding of motor vehicles and maintenance

Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team

Physical ability to perform manual tasks such as bending and lifting

Hold or be willing to work towards a Category B driving licence
Qualifications & Progression

GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English (Level 2/Grade 4 or above preferred; functional skills support provided if needed)

Upon successful completion, qualification as a Vehicle Technician with a Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Apprenticeship
