Cabrillo College is seeking a candidate who has the requisite skills to teach a broad range of courses in two-dimensional (2D) art, which may include foundations in 2D design and color, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, figure drawing, painting, mixed media, and lettering, as well as someone who has knowledge of equipment, facilities, and health and safety protocols related to these 2D practices.

The Art Studio program at Cabrillo College consists of 2D and 3D design, drawing, painting, graphic arts, printmaking, small metals, sculpture, woodworking, 3D digital fabrication, and ceramics. The 2D art facilities include printmaking, painting, and drawing studios, and access to a digital lab and FabLab/makerspace. The student body consists of transfer students, students from other degree programs, and community skill-builders. The Art Studio program enjoys proximity and relationship to the Visual, Applied, and Performing Arts (VAPA) Division, which includes thriving art history, art photography, digital media, music, theater, and dance programs and facilities.

Requirements:

Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty, and staff

AND

Master’s in fine arts, art, or art history

OR

Bachelor’s in fine arts, art, or art history

AND

Master’s in humanities

OR

A lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in Art

OR

The equivalent

“Master’s in fine arts” as used here refers to any master’s degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined toinclude visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the “Master of Fine Arts” (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other non-plastic arts.

Salary: $68,768 to$105,559 per year
