About the School of Social Work
The School of Social Work at Fayetteville State University prepares competent and compassionate professionals at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The program emphasizes lifelong learning and community well-being across rural, urban, and military settings. FSU’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program, accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), equips graduates for advanced social work practice and leadership, particularly in areas such as child welfare, mental health, family support, substance misuse, and military social work.
Position Overview
The School of Social Work invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position beginning Fall 2026. The selected candidate will teach at both BSW and MSW levels, maintain office hours, advise and mentor students, conduct research and scholarship, and engage in service at the school, university, professional, and community levels.
The ability to teach online and work effectively in diverse learning environments is required.
Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (both in-person and online).

Advise and mentor students while maintaining regular office hours.

Engage in scholarly research, publication, and professional development.

Serve on departmental, university, and professional committees.

Participate in community outreach and service initiatives.

Pursue external funding opportunities through grant writing.
Minimum Education and Experience
Assistant Professor
-
PhD or DSW in Social Work (ABD candidates considered; doctorate required before start date).

MSW from a CSWE-accredited program.

Minimum two years of post-MSW professional experience.
Associate Professor
-
PhD or DSW in Social Work.
-
MSW from a CSWE-accredited program.

Minimum five years of post-MSW professional experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Canvas, Zoom, Teams, and other educational technologies.

Ability to integrate technology and innovative methods into classroom teaching.

Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research.
Preferred Qualifications
Assistant Professor
-
At least one year of teaching experience at the BSW/MSW level.

Professional licensure: LCSW, LCAS, CCS, or CSI.

Evidence of scholarship and community service.
Associate Professor
-
Five or more years of teaching in higher education.

Minimum three refereed publications and three professional presentations.

Proven success in grant funding and university/community service.

Professional licensure: LCSW, LCAS, CCS, or CSI.
Additional Information
