What you will be doing as the Assistant Controller
The Assistant Controller assists the Senior Director of Accounting in the development, approval,
implementation, and evaluation of all activities related to the accounting service area
What you will be doing as the Assistant Controller
- Provide accounting guidance and direction of staff where functional responsibility interfaces with the operational units; i.e. community education, workforce development, financial aid, federal and local grants.
- Maintain the fixed asset subsidiary ledger and perform monthly reconciliations of the fixed asset ledger, general ledger, and the inventory tracking system.
- Assist the Senior Director of Accounting in maintaining the Chart of Accounts and in preparing requests for the Chart of Accounts Review Committee (COARC). Attend COARC when necessary in the absence of the Senior Director of Accounting.
- Assist the Senior Director of Accounting in completing monthly, quarterly, and yearly reconciliations, journal entries, footnotes, exhibits, and supporting documents for the Financial Statement preparation.
- Assist the Senior Director of Accounting in compiling documents and other requested items for Internal and External Audits.
- Attend monthly System Controller and state higher education meetings and other required meetings as requested by the Campus Senior Director of Accounting and/or the system office.
- Manage and review daily activity of Fiscal Operations including supervision and review of work performed by Accounting, Payroll, and Accounts Payable staff.
- Ensure procedures are followed consistently to maintain proper internal controls and integrity of financial data in compliance with applicable federal laws, Colorado Revised Statues, state board, college policy, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Works independently with little supervision or as part of a team.
- Communicates effectively with students, colleagues, and others.

- Assesses individual and department work processes and recommends improvements.
- Complies with State Fiscal Rules, State Board policies, System and College protocols, and departmental procedures.
- Obtains and maintains proficiency with required systems and equipment.
- Maintains confidentiality of student and employee information as required. ·
- Completes all required compliance training within the established timeline.
What you will need to be successful as the Assistant Controller
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- At least one year of professional accounting experience in a medium size organization
- Proficiency with Subsidiary and general ledger accounting, General ledger reconciliations, Excel spreadsheets, Bank reconciliations, Journal Entries
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP)
- Experience in higher education or government accounting is a plus
