Assistant Cook/Kitchen Assistant (3 days per week)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Assistant Cook / Catering Assistant to support the provision of safe, nutritious, and well-balanced meals for patients, staff, and visitors. You will also act as cover for the Cook when needed and contribute to maintaining the highest hygiene and food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Cook/Chef with daily meal preparation and kitchen duties

  • Help plan menus and food orders based on dietary requirements and preferences

  • Prepare and cook meals following the established menus and portion standards

  • Ensure meals meet nutritional, safety, and quality standards

  • Manage kitchen inventory and assist in placing orders with suppliers

  • Maintain food safety practices including proper date labeling and rotation

  • Prepare special items (e.g., cakes for birthdays or celebrations)

  • Supervise or support other staff in the kitchen as needed

  • Maintain cleanliness of all food prep areas and equipment

  • Foster good relationships with suppliers and team members

  • Bring a real passion for cooking and delivering excellent catering services

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in food preparation and kitchen operations

  • Strong understanding of hygiene, food safety, and allergen awareness

  • Ability to plan, multitask, and work efficiently in a healthcare or care setting

  • A team player with good communication and time management skills

  • A genuine interest in supporting the wellbeing of patients and staff through food
