Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Genomic Diagnostics Laboratory (GDL) at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, one of the most comprehensive and advanced clinical genomics laboratories in the UK. As an Assistant Genetic Technologist, you will work across a variety of specialised technical teams — including Pre-analytical, Cell Culture, Molecular Cytogenetics, and Sequencing/NGS — to support the delivery of essential, high-quality genomic diagnostics services.
Based within the North West Genomic Laboratory Hub, the GDL provides services for over 5 million people and is staffed by over 100 professionals including genetic technologists, clinical scientists, and bioinformaticians. Key Responsibilities

Carry out a range of routine, protocol-driven laboratory tasks under supervision

Ensure accuracy in data entry, sample preparation, and laboratory processes

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver efficient diagnostic services

Maintain quality assurance procedures and follow health and safety guidelines

Contribute to the delivery of timely results in accordance with national guidelines
Requirements

A-levels in science subjects (or equivalent literacy and numeracy skills)

Previous experience in a genetics or diagnostic laboratory (desirable)

Proficient in using computers and laboratory information systems

Excellent attention to detail, good manual dexterity, and the ability to work under pressure

Strong communication and organisational skills

Willingness to work flexibly as part of a team and adhere to a shift rota
