Job Summary
The Assistant Store Manager works with the Store Manager and peer managers to plan, coordinate, and oversee store operations. This role ensures labor and cost control, meets sales goals, maintains safety standards, and delivers a clean, efficient, and customer-friendly shopping experience. You’ll also play a vital role in staff hiring, training, and development while keeping the store stocked and profitable.
Key Responsibilities

Manage the Grocery Department in compliance with company policies, state/federal laws, and labor agreements.

Maintain store appearance, safety, cleanliness, and efficiency at all times.

Lead by example with integrity, professionalism, and excellent customer service.

Monitor employee productivity and ensure efficient labor usage.

Implement and evaluate merchandising plans.

Oversee hiring, training, disciplinary actions, and performance reviews.

Serve as Manager on Duty when required.

Ensure products are well-stocked, rotated, and meet quality standards.

Support the Store Manager in meeting labor, productivity, and profit margin goals.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
-
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:
-
Currently enrolled in the Manager Apprentice Program, OR
-
1+ years as Store Manager/Director OR 3+ years as Assistant Store Manager/Director (or equivalent).

Strong supervisory, leadership, and communication skills.
-
Proficiency in Windows applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Preferred:
-
5+ years as Store Manager or Assistant Manager in high-volume retail grocery.
Physical & Additional Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Frequent bending, standing, walking, twisting, and use of hands.

Ability to operate check stand equipment, forklifts, pallet jacks, and other store machinery.

Availability to work varied schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Food Handler’s Certification (per state law).
