Assistant Store Manager – Overview

DICK’S Sporting Goods is looking for an enthusiastic, people-focused leader to oversee operations within their designated area of the store.

The Assistant Store Manager plays a key role in ensuring an exceptional customer experience by leading a team that delivers hassle-free and engaging service. This role is dedicated to teammate coaching, development, and well-being, while also focusing on financial performance, store operations, and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of their assigned department, ensuring smooth functionality and efficiency.
  • Plan and execute both short-term and long-term operational strategies in collaboration with the Store Manager.
  • Actively recruit talent within the community and support initiatives that encourage teammate involvement in community outreach.
  • Partner with store leadership to hire a diverse, inclusive team and manage workforce planning, including scheduling and payroll budget oversight.
  • Hold team members accountable for operational standards, brand guidelines, customer service expectations, and company policies.
  • Drive shrink reduction efforts by ensuring compliance with safety, loss prevention, and cash-handling procedures.
  • Foster a positive and engaging work environment through clear communication and creative team-building strategies.
  • Prioritize coaching and development, embedding learning opportunities into daily leadership.
  • Champion an inclusive store culture where teammates and customers feel welcome, valued, and respected.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in retail management or a customer-focused role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible schedule, including availability on nights, weekends, and holidays.
