Responsibilities
The Research & Instruction Librarian plays a key role in delivering professional library services, with a primary focus on reference assistance and instruction. Working within a collaborative team environment, this position provides leadership in library services and contributes to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the library’s information literacy instruction program. The librarian also develops instructional materials in print, multimedia, and interactive formats and works closely with academic support staff across campus to create programs that benefit the college community. This role is based at the Oviedo campus.
This position begins at the Associate Librarian rank, with the opportunity for promotion to full Librarian through the continuing contract process, as outlined by the institution.
Essential Functions
- Provide research and instructional support, assisting students, faculty, and staff in locating, interpreting, and effectively using library resources in both print and electronic formats.
- Teach library instruction sessions, employing diverse instructional methods and technologies, designing lesson plans, and assessing student learning outcomes.
- Manage collection development in assigned subject areas, using available tools to select, maintain, and remove information resources as needed.
- Participate in both in-person and virtual library service rotations, offering assistance via phone, email, and digital platforms.
- Develop instructional resources and library services to support classroom, online, multimedia, and interactive learning environments.
- Serve as a liaison to assigned academic departments, maintaining communication and collaboration with faculty.
- Support library outreach and student engagement initiatives on campus and online.
- Provide input on the library’s budget, resources, and infrastructure, ensuring high-quality service for students and faculty.
- Stay informed on library policies, procedures, and emerging trends, participating in professional development activities.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and statistical data related to library services.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or a related field from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
- Solid understanding of library services and standard procedures.
- Experience in reference services within an academic library.
- Familiarity with online library systems, electronic databases, research tools, and networked environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional master’s degree in a specialized academic field related to library sciences.
- Experience in college libraries and information literacy instruction.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong grasp of emerging trends in electronic resources and library technologies.
- Ability to work creatively and collaboratively in a fast-evolving environment.
- Expertise in designing instructional materials for diverse teaching and learning methods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Knowledge of copyright laws as they relate to library collections and services in an educational setting.
- Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience working with diverse user groups in a team-based environment.
- Deep understanding of library instruction best practices and their role in supporting the college’s academic mission.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Works primarily in a library/office setting.
- Exposure to airborne dust and mold, common in library environments.
- Requires frequent bending and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted.
- Must be able to push and pull book carts, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when needed.
- Occasionally requires climbing on low stools to access shelving up to six feet high.
