Role Overview

As a Software Developer within New York Life’s Technology Organization, you’ll be responsible for designing, coding, testing, and deploying applications based on user needs. You’ll create efficient code, troubleshoot issues, maintain existing software, and collaborate closely with team members throughout the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop programs; create test transactions, identify errors, and revise programs as needed.

  • Develop technical documentation covering installation and operational procedures.

  • Write new programs of moderate complexity using established methods and design specifications.

  • Collaborate with developers, designers, project managers, and QA teams to implement and maintain applications.

  • Contribute to application specifications and participate in post-implementation reviews to capture learnings.

  • Provide daily operational support for production systems.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, and JavaScript.

  • Knowledge of database technologies (SQL; experience with Oracle is a plus).

  • Familiarity with application development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) and SDLC fundamentals.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills for maintaining and enhancing existing systems.

  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.

  • Solid working knowledge of relevant tools and programming environments.

  • Ability to test, implement, and maintain system components based on specifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • Understanding of Agile development practices.

  • Basic knowledge of IT organizational structures and processes.

  • An interest in understanding the insurance industry, including New York Life’s products and services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of the business areas supported by IT applications.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Leadership potential and teamwork skills.

Compensation Details:

  • Salary Range: $60,000 – $102,500

  • Overtime Eligible: Nonexempt

  • Bonus Eligibility: Discretionary Annual Bonus

  • Sales Bonus Eligibility: No

Actual salary will be based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location. Employees are also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and may participate in an incentive program.
