Role Summary

As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will assist registered staff in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients. You’ll play an essential role in maintaining patients’ dignity, safety, and well-being while supporting the day-to-day functioning of the ward or care environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist registered nurses with routine care and implementation of patient care plans.

  • Provide personal care support (dressing, bathing, toileting) with dignity and in line with best practice and policies.

  • Observe and report any changes in a patient’s physical, emotional, or mental health to senior staff.

  • Carry out delegated care interventions, including:

    • Patient observation and engagement

    • Escorting patients on leave

    • De-escalation and managing challenging behaviours (following training)

  • Maintain a clean and safe ward environment and adhere to infection control procedures.

  • Assist in stock management, including pharmaceuticals and general supplies.

  • Respond courteously to telephone and in-person enquiries, supporting patients, families, and visitors.

  • Actively participate in team meetings and the delivery of a high-quality, multidisciplinary care approach.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Currently employed with us via an approved agency

  • Ability to provide compassionate, person-centred care

  • Willingness to undertake training and attend a 4-week induction (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm)

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or support worker role

  • Confidence in de-escalation and therapeutic engagement
