Behavioral Health Associate

Purpose

As a Behavioral Health Associate (BHA1), you will provide direct patient care under the guidance of physicians and other health practitioners. This role requires compassion, professionalism, and a strong commitment to patient safety while supporting patients in their journey toward improved wellness and independence.

Essential Functions

• Prioritize patient safety and deliver excellent customer service.

• Conduct routine safety checks and provide required supervision (e.g., 15-minute rounds or individualized guidelines).

• Maintain timely and accurate documentation in patient medical records.

• Create a safe, clean, and supportive environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

• Take and record patient vital signs, height, and weight as assigned.

• Engage patients in therapeutic activities and interactions that support treatment goals.

• Respond calmly to distressed patients, applying de-escalation techniques when necessary.

• Assist with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, meals, hydration, and changing linens.

• Support patient admissions and discharges.

• Co-lead or lead individual or group therapy or recreational sessions as assigned.

• Encourage and reinforce behavioral improvements and coping skills.

• Provide or coordinate patient transportation when needed.

• Collaborate with the care team to support treatment and rehabilitation programs.

• Ensure quality, accuracy, and timeliness in all tasks performed.

Other Responsibilities

• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Education, Experience & Skills

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

• Minimum six months’ experience as a BHA1 preferred.

• Six months or more experience with the facility’s specific patient population preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

• CPR, de-escalation, and restraint certification required (training provided upon hire).

• First Aid certification may be required depending on state or facility requirements.
