Position Overview
Nevada State University’s Office of Human Resources seeks a compassionate and organized Benefits and Wellness Specialist or Coordinator to administer employee benefits and leaves, and develop wellness initiatives. The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted resource to university employees and play a key role in building a holistic, inclusive, and responsive benefits environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Benefits Administration
-
Manage benefits programs (health, dental, life, disability, retirement, etc.)

Conduct benefits consultations, orientations, and open enrollment sessions
-
Collaborate with vendors, internal HR staff, and state agencies
-
Maintain accurate benefits data and ensure seamless enrollments
-
Serve as the university’s Workday Benefits SME and support testing and updates
-
Maintain HR Benefits webpage and related communication materials
Leave Management
-
Advise on FMLA, NPFL, military, and other leave types
-
Coordinate leave requests and documentation
-
Track and calculate intermittent/reduced schedule leave usage
-
Serve as the Workday Absence SME
-
Consult on ADA matters in coordination with the CHRO/ADA Officer
Wellness Program
-
Assist in planning and delivering employee wellness programs, presentations, and university-wide wellness events
Minimum Qualifications
Specialist Level:
-
1–2 years of experience in benefits administration
Coordinator Level:
-
3–4 years of experience in benefits administration
Both Levels Require:
-
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
-
Knowledge of HIPAA, ACA, ADA, FMLA, and relevant laws
-
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to handle confidential matters with discretion
-
Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
-
PHR or SHRM-CP certification
-
Experience with FMLA/ADA case management
-
HR/benefits experience in higher education
-
Familiarity with Workday
